Thread: 2011 Season & Future

    2011 Season & Future

What are we gonna do for next year ???? I know this year has been a difficult year and everyone who has stuck with it and got their bikes out and raced should be congratulated.
We have 125 odd people on the forum either interested or have bikes in the garage that could be persuaded out given the right circumstances.

Whats it gonna take to get them out ??? Any suggestions ???

Mick Hammonds although is unable to actually ride has suggested he would help out with organisation and admin if it was needed.

Someone find me a job in the UK -- I am fookin' sick of dealing with my local club -- they have no clue here about mono racing -- if you haven't bought it at a shop, no one understands why you would do it in the first place!
Here's a thread I started about trying to get an ultralightweight class started...

So, yeah, I'd love to come out and race at your beautiful pristine (relatively speaking) tracks... I'm just a tad too far away.

I just read your thread on your bike club. I feel for you. Over here the mono class is the only class for true protoypes left in the UK & Europe and unfortunately its looking a bit bleak for us as well. We need to find some way of persuading people to get there bikes out again before the series organiser gives up on the class completely.

I have tried all ready to get some sort of diologue going on the Forum, but not a lot of interest.
I think those of us that will be at Donnington should get together and have a chat about next year. I have an alternative plan for next season if the Supermono goes the way of the DODO and will still have a bike that i can run as a supermono.
IMHO there are to many other easier and cheaper options for racing than supermono
Life's a bitch and i ain't through shaggin her yet.

Hi, a few wishful thinking suggestions, some madder than others, but who knows ? :-

Get Top Gear in to do a Supermono theme.

Try to have some of the top riders to make an appearance, even older ex racers

Ask KTM Yamaha Honda etc what they can help with

Get Norton interested in spitting out some race Supermonos for us

Press the Manx GP for a Supermono class

Hire Nurburgring for a Supermono weekend

Run on Methanol so we get more power out of our 4 stroke engines, and allow 2 strokes to run on petrol only

Have big parties at the meetings with Supermono orientated games , prizes, mr/miss wet Supermono etc

Is the Norfolkline ferry (who is now bought up by DFDS) still sponsoring us with cheaper fares ?

Protest against the 2, 3 and 4 cylinder bikes by becoming Single. Oh shite i might be heading that way soon if i dont curb my racing antics !

Yes there are easier ways to go racing i agree which is why the moto 450 singles was such a brilliant concept and ignoring the twins they appear, with the right pilots can do very competitve times compared to the mono's. That would still allow the mono enthusiasts to run their bikes.
I think one of the biggest reasons for the continuation of the championship for so long was its national status and this attraction was quite a draw to certain riders who wanted a british championship added to their list of credits. Again this bought money to the championship and allowed less monied riders to run their bikes.
Now thats not an option anymore as supermono is not a national championship.
I have heard that there is talk of running a moto 450 class at the manx and also in ireland. Can anybody shed any light on this who is more in touch with that type of racing and can we tag onto that interest. Maybe a round or 2 in ireland ??? it could help them and us.
When i was racing cars in the part of our championship was in ireland and you wont meet more friendly people or more enthusiasts so its an avenue worth persuing

I have just spoken to Dave Stewart in a little detail about what his expectations/plans would be for mono's next year. He has suggested that for the first part of the year the situation would remain the same as this year.that Monos would run with moto 450. If the moto450 class gets too big or the mono grid is too small he maybe forced to move the class elsewhere he did suggest one of the street fighter class, we would not have to modify the bikes in any way to do this it would just mean that we would be racing with a different group of people and providing they were happy accomodate the class we would continue there.
I get the feeling he has a genuine interest in keeping the mono class going and in particular within Thundersport so if your all reading this take note we do have options on the table within the current club.... Any comments ????

    Guys,

I'm trying to put together a long term sponsorship package for the class, which if successful would bring stability and a significant amount of product support (£100k+ per year). This isn't related to any specific machine, engine or component manufacturer (which can conflict with the open attraction of the rules and tends to leave a legacy to be dealt with in successive years) but inject 'the kit' needed to build, develop and maintain prototype machinery into the class. This is linked to my response to Martin's discussion thread a couple of weeks back, about developing young race engineers as much as riders.

If anyone else can get some support in for the class then don't let this stop you.

Please hang in there, keep thinking about being on a mono next year and how we can develop the class.

    Steve
Optimist or pessimist? To an engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

hmmm sounds good..... anyone racing a mono now will want to be on one next year....

That sounds very promising to say the least. Are you coming to Donnington ? As Marting suggested us getting to gether there for a chat if possible. In response to help or backing i dont have that kind of money but i do have a very well equipped machine shop and would be prepared to help out in parts manufacture etc if the need arrises.
