Plenty of classes cater for developing young rider talent, so why don't we beat a different path and focus on developing young engineering talent? No one else does, so it's an open goal with little competition. We've engineering experience in abundance matched with the enthusiasm to share it with anyone. Why not make something of this? Then there would be an abundance of bikes and, to paraphrase Jerry Burgess "Racers are like light bulbs - when one flickers you just unscrew it and replace it with anther one".

Perhaps focusing on getting young riders into the class is targeting the wrong people?

The changes at World Championship level will quickly filter down into domestic series. Already the CEV championship in Spain is spawning new Moto2 machinery designed and developed by enthusiasts such as us (check out David Sanchez'z bike at www.Bottpower.com which is a result of him being approached by an aspirant Moto2 team off the back of his 'having a go' at building chassis to his own design. His hobby is now a fledgling race engineering company). Moto3 will result in more of the same.

The mono old-guard could be a fundamental part of the 'prototype renaissance'.
